Baby Dedications & Christenings

Welcome your little one with love.

A new little person in the family is worth celebrating. A baby dedication or christening brings your loved ones together to mark that beginning and honour the people who will help nurture and support your child as they grow.

A ceremony that reflects your family.

Whether you’re imagining a quiet gathering at home, a picnic in the park or a celebration with family and friends, I’ll start with a conversation about what matters to you.

Together, we’ll shape the words, readings and personal touches around your family’s wishes. I can lead a faith-based dedication or christening, or a ceremony that’s simply about love, family and the people who will support your child as they grow.

Ways to make it personal

  • Sharing the story behind your child’s name
  • Honouring godparents, guideparents or special people in your child’s life
  • Readings, poems or promises from parents and family
  • Symbolic rituals such as a sand ceremony, candle lighting or tree planting
  • A keepsake certificate to remember the day

Where I celebrate

Based in the Illawarra, I lead baby dedications and naming ceremonies across Wollongong, the South Coast and the Southern Highlands, at home, in a garden, a park or your chosen venue.

Good to know

Your questions, answered.

  • What’s the difference between a baby dedication and a christening?

A traditional christening usually includes infant baptism within a particular church. A baby dedication is a ceremony where parents and loved ones give thanks for your child and commit to raising them with love and support, often with a blessing or prayer. Many families use the words interchangeably, so we’ll talk about what feels right for yours.

  • Does the ceremony need to be religious?

Not at all. Some families want prayer and a blessing; others prefer a ceremony focused on family and community. I’m happy to create either, or something in between.

  • Is a naming ceremony a legal requirement?

No. It’s a celebration rather than a legal process. Registering your child’s birth with NSW Births, Deaths and Marriages is separate.
